Questions
When is the next Bitcoin halving?
Every 210,000 blocks the block subsidy halves. The countdown above divides the blocks left by the recent average time between blocks, so the date moves a little as hashrate changes. The next halving cuts the subsidy from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC per block.
What is the difficulty adjustment?
Every 2,016 blocks (about two weeks) Bitcoin retunes how hard blocks are to find so they keep arriving roughly every ten minutes. If blocks came faster than that, difficulty rises; slower, it falls.
What does hashrate tell me?
Hashrate estimates how much computing power secures the network, from how quickly blocks are being found at the current difficulty. Higher hashrate makes the chain more expensive to attack.
How many bitcoin exist?
Supply is fixed by the protocol: every block adds the current subsidy and nothing else. The issued figure above is calculated from the block height, so it is exact: about 21 million will ever exist, the last fraction in around 2140.
